Queens Writes Weekend—May 13–15, 2016

There are more than a dozen events happening around Queens for the literary minded during Queens Writes Weekend. See the full schedule and keep checking back!

Newtown Literary Alliance, a non-profit organization benefiting the literary scene in Queens, NY, is having its fourth annual Queens Writes Weekend to raise funds for our programs.  We publish a semi-annual literary journal, hold a student writing contest, and organize community readings. In the fall, we will begin holding free creative writing classes at Queens library branches all over the borough.

Queens Writes Weekend will be a weekend-long event held at various locations around the borough where participants are inspired to come write for a few hours in a community setting. That’s it! We want Queens to write! Our goal is to have sites all over the borough at all times during the weekend.  We will advertise the sites on our website so that participants can find a location and time that works best for them.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! We are looking for volunteers to serve as site captains. It’s easy and a great way to meet other writers! More information here.

HELP US KEEP THE JOURNAL ALIVE BY DONATING TODAY!

All events have a $5 suggested donation and copies of the journal will be available for purchase. With each $5 donation, participants will receive a raffle ticket for a prize of writing books curated and donated by our friends at The Astoria Bookshop; extra raffle tickets will be available for an additional $5. The winner will be drawn (but need not be present) at the closing reading on Sunday, May 15.
