Queens Writes! Weekend 2013

NL QWW 2013 Logo

The Queens Writes! Weekend will be a weekend-long event held at various locations around the borough where participants come to write for a few hours.  That’s it!  We want Queens to write!  Our goal is to have sites all over the borough at all times during the weekend.

You don’t have to be a professional writer—you can be a hobbyist or complete newcomer to writing.  You don’t need fancy equipment (although, feel free to bring a tablet or laptop)—you just need a pen and paper.

Each site will be structured slightly differently, but prompts for writing will be made available for those that want them.  You will not be forced to share your writing, if you do not want to.  Any feedback given to writing will be positive comments only.

This event is a fundraising event (the $5 suggested donation goes to printing costs for Issue #2 of the journal, as well as our programs such as low-cost workshops starting this summer and a kid’s writing contest beginning in September), but we also want this to be another way for the literary community in Queens to connect with one another.  We would love for writing groups and book groups to spring out of this event!

We will also have a typewriter traveling the borough where passersby can contribute a line of poetry for $1.  It’s the Queens Traveling Typewriter!

You can donate online: https://www.wepay.com/donations/queens-writes-weekend-2013

We are still looking for Site Captains to help us organize the events.  More information here.
